Your machines

Browse your machines

How the library is laid out on each device, how to search it, and what a host's details and this device's host show.

Add a machine and its services

Add a host with a Terminal, Database or Desktop service, add more services, edit them, and remove services or hosts.

Connect and switch between sessions

Use the Connect controls and the Mac's Command Palette, switch to or close open sessions from Active and the lightning button, see everything open with Show All Windows, and shrink windows into orbs on Vision Pro.

Widgets

The Machines, Machine and Active widgets on iPhone, iPad, Vision Pro and Mac: where they go, what they show, and what choosing them does.

Siri, Shortcuts and the rest of the system

Siri phrases and Shortcuts actions, sending files to a machine, Spotlight, Controls, Handoff, dragging a service into its own window, ssh:// links, and on the Mac the Finder's Services, toolbar button and Quick Action, Open With and the Dock menu.

Favorites, collections and other names

Mark favorites, find recent hosts, group hosts into collections, and give a host other names that search and matching use.

Manage SSH keys

Import keys or generate them in the Secure Enclave, see which services use a key, and copy, export, rename or delete keys.

Your library on all your devices

What iCloud syncs and what stays on one device, when syncing happens, how to check its status, and how conflicts resolve.

Settings and window appearance

Open Settings on each device, choose Light or Dark, set window opacity and glass, and read the General, Privacy and About pages.

Terminal

Connect to a machine over SSH

Set up a Terminal service, connect, enter passwords, route through jump hosts, allow legacy algorithms, and recover from dropped connections.

Sign in with keys and trust host keys

Sign in with an SSH or Secure Enclave key, install your public key, and trust or refuse a machine's host key.

Work in a terminal

Terminal windows, tabs and splits, the layout toggle and the plus menu, the Mac window's sidebar, moving tabs between windows, what comes back after a relaunch, the tools menu, text size, scaling the text with the window, search, paste review, links and paths, previewing a printed path's file, selecting on Vision Pro, dropping files, snippets, recording and the Mac's local shell.

Keep terminals running with tmux

Keep each terminal in its own tmux session, reconnect to it, pick it up from Active on another device or add it to a window as a tab, end it, open a basic terminal outside tmux, and keep the Mac's local terminals running in the background.

Browse and transfer files over SFTP

Open the file browser, upload and download, create, rename, move and delete items, and edit remote files in the Editor.

Forward ports through an SSH session

Add local, remote and SOCKS5 port forwards to a live SSH session, start and stop them, and fix common failures.

Save and open terminal Workgroups

Create Workgroups of terminal tabs with startup commands, open them on each platform, and swap in SSH for Mac-only local tabs.

Terminal settings, themes and snippets

The Connections, Terminal and Snippets settings pages, resizing and previews, theme editing, a terminal window's own settings, SSH config import and Tailscale.
