Widgets

Glass Power Tools has three widgets: Machines, to connect to a machine's service in one step; Machine, for one machine you choose; and Active, to see what's open and what's running on your machines. This page covers where you can place them, what each one shows, and what choosing it does.

Where they go#

Add them the way you add any widget, and look for Glass Power Tools in the list.

  • On iPhone and iPad: on the Home Screen and the Lock Screen.
  • On Vision Pro: on a wall or another surface in your room, in glass, raised from it or set into it.
  • On Mac: on the desktop or in Notification Center.

Machines#

Machines lists your favorite machines first, by name, then the others, most recently connected first. Each machine shows its name, a star if it's a favorite, and a button for each of its services: terminal, database or desktop.

  • Choose a service's button to connect to it, as Connect on that service in the library does.
  • Choose a machine's name to open the library with that machine selected.

The small size shows three machines with one service each. The medium and large sizes show four and nine machines, with up to three services each and how long ago each machine last connected. The device you're using, such as This Mac, isn't listed, nor is a machine with no services.

On the Lock Screen, Machines lists the names of up to three machines or, in the line above the time, the first one and how many more there are. Choosing it opens the app.

Machine#

Machine shows one machine: its name, a button for each of its services (up to three in the small size, four in the medium), and what is open or running on it, for example 1 open · 2 running. To choose the machine, edit the widget (touch and hold it, or right-click it on Mac) and pick one under Machine. Until you do, it shows your first favorite, or your most recent machine.

  • Choose a service's button to connect to it, as Connect on that service in the library does.
  • Choose the machine's name to open the library with that machine selected.
  • On Vision Pro, it can stand in the room beside that machine's own windows.

It comes in small and medium sizes, and on the Lock Screen on iPhone and iPad, where it shows the machine's name and the symbols of up to four of its services, without buttons. If the machine you chose is removed from the library, the widget says so; edit it to choose another.

Active#

Active counts what is open in Glass Power Tools on this device, and the tmux sessions running on your machines that aren't open here (see Keep terminals running with tmux), for example 2 open · 3 running. The small size shows how many are open, with how many are running below. The medium size also lists up to three machines, with their kinds of service and their counts, and says how long ago it was updated.

Choose it to open Active in the library. See Connect and switch between sessions.

On the Lock Screen, Active shows the counts; its round size shows how many are open.

What they show, and when it changes#

The widgets show what Glass Power Tools on this device last saw: your library, and what Active lists. While the app is running, they change when that changes. When the app isn't running, they keep what it last saw, which is why Active says when it was updated.

Choosing a widget opens the app if it isn't running, and carries out what you chose once the app is ready.

The widgets are given names, kinds of service, times and counts, and nothing else. They never see an address, a password or a key.
